South Dakota School of Mines and Technology

The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is an institution of higher learning located in Rapid City, South Dakota. It was established in 1885 as the Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and was the state’s first technological school. The university is known for its degree programs in science, engineering, and technology, and is renowned for its research initiatives in such areas as renewable energy and underground mining engineering. It is also the only university in the state that offers a mining degree. In addition to traditional bachelor’s and master’s degrees in STEM disciplines, the university also offers doctoral degrees in petroleum engineering, geology, metallurgical engineering and economics. With an enrollment of more than 2,400 students, the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology continues to be one of the premier technology universities in the region.
