Located in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Northern State University is a public university that was founded in 1901. It is the only public institution of higher learning in a non-metropolitan area of South Dakota and the only state-supported college in the state to have achieved national accreditation in all academic majors. Northern State University offers more than 50 undergraduate academic programs, and is noted for its strong programs in education, business, and science. The university also offers numerous extracurricular activities, including a variety of athletic programs in NCAA Division II and an extensive student-led activities program.
