New Mexico State University is an institution of higher learning located in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Founded in 1888, the school has grown to become a comprehensive research university and has been designated as a Carnegie Doctoral/R2: High Research Activity University. NMSU serves the state of New Mexico with programs in research, teaching and public service, providing educational opportunities at the bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and professional levels. The university is the birthplace of the United States Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program, and the birthplace of the nation’s first cooperative extension service.
