Tougaloo College is a historically black college situated in the state of Mississippi. Founded in 1869 by the American Missionary Association it provided a space for African Americans and affiliated individuals to pursue higher education. The college hosts a variety of degree programs, and is home to the Tougaloo Institute of History and African American Studies. The Institute researches and preserves the history of African-American achievement and studies modern African-American social behaviors. The college also provides a variety of extracurricular activities including art, cinema, and spiritual groups. Tougaloo College is dedicated to their mission of providing excellent education opportunities for African-American students, and their motto is “A Legacy of Education and Service”.
