The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) is an accredited four-year service academy located in New London, Connecticut, specializing in preparation for a career as an officer in the United States Coast Guard. As the smallest of the five service academies, USCGA offers its 4,100 cadets an education rooted in the traditions of military service, intense student life, and a demanding academic program. USCGA cadets gain a solid foundation in leadership, physical fitness, engineering and maritime law and learn military knowledge, skills and disciplines. They also take part in a variety of extracurricular activities, such as athletics, international relations, music, sailing and a wide range of clubs. Upon graduation, USCGA cadets are commissioned as ensigns in the United States Coast Guard and serve in one of the Coast Guard’s many operating forces.
