Alabama State University is a historically black college located in Montgomery, Alabama. Founded in 1867 as the Lincoln Normal School of Marion, it was later renamed to Alabama State College for Negroes and finally, in 1969, to Alabama State University. The University has seen great strides since its humble beginnings and now has an enrollment of over 5,000 students. ASU is made up of six academic colleges and has a broad range of degree programs in areas such as the sciences, liberal arts, business, education, nursing, and law. The university has an ever-growing number of extracurricular activities that students can get involved in including as well as intramural sports, student organizations, and fraternities and sororities.
